Jingle bells, Santa sells!

By Adam Claxton

Most people agree that Santa Claus is a cuddly, slightly overweight, jolly man with a white beard wearing a red suit. But do you know how he came to look like he does today?

Surprisingly, it seems, Coca-Cola were quite instrumental in shaping the look of this much loved icon.

The relationship between Santa and Coca-Cola started in 1922. At this time, many people thought of Coca-Cola as a drink only for warm weather. The Coca-Cola Company began a campaign to remind people that Coca-Cola was a great choice in any month. This began with the slogan "Thirst Knows No Season," and continued with a campaign connecting a true icon of winter - Santa Claus - with the beverage.

Top Fact of the Month

Did you know that Father Christmas has two addresses, Edinburgh and the North Pole. Letters addressed to 'TOYLAND' or 'SNOWLAND' go to Edinburgh, but letters addressed to 'THE NORTH POLE'  have to be sent there because there is such a place!

Tom Brosseau, I caught this guy doing a show in a bar in Brighton, he turned up and asked the staff if he could play for a drink, the bar staff said fine, Tom then got on a table and started singing....no guitar for the first song, the bar went silent, he was awesome.

This month’s recipes is:

Festive Thumbprints

A great cookie to cheer up your colleagues.

What You Need:

3/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup of seedless jam.

1. Finely chop the nuts, then set them aside.

2. Cream the butter. Gradually beat in the sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg yolk and vanilla extract.

3. Sift the flour, baking powder, and salt into a bowl. Then stir the flour mixture into the butter one third at a time. Stir in the chopped nuts. Cover the dough with plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 20 to 30 minutes.

4. Lightly grease 2 large baking sheets. Heat the oven to 325°. Roll the dough into 1 1/4-inch-thick balls and place them on the sheets about 1 1/2 inches apart. Next, press your thumb into each ball to make a deep impression. (Tip: Before shaping the dough balls and pressing your thumb into the centers, dust your hands with flour to keep the dough from sticking.) Bake the cookies on the center oven rack for 20 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

5. Spoon about 1/2 teaspoon of filling into each thumbprint. Store the cookies in a tin until serving time. Makes about 2 dozen cookies

Adam's Monthly Doodle

monthly doodle

I don't really have any festive or winter doodles so I have added a commission.

(Acrylics on wood)

This did start out as a lunch time doodle which then got transferred to the wall of a club, it was inspired by the artwork of a band I was in to at the time. Unfortunately the original sketch was lost along time ago but this picture still remains in the club today.
